Game Cheats

When I see my children and grandchildren sit in front of computer or television screens for hours on end, I wonder if this can be good for them. Although it seems to me it teaches them good hand to eye coordination.

I know some of the games are very violent but I’m not talking about the violent ones for Nintendo, Xbox or Playstations. That’s a whole new story.

Some of these children can’t sit for 30 minutes reading a book or doing their homework but put an Nintendo, Play station, Xbox or Wii control in their hands and they are there for hours

When my children were smaller I worried about them sitting too close to the television for hours, ruining their eyes. I guess that comes from not being raised with a television. We played outdoors, walked everywhere and invented ways to stay busy. Then along came Sony, Panasonic, Magnavox and RCA with televisions and houses being air conditioned and there went the outside play.

In this new age of electronics which seems to boggle the minds of us older generation, I wonder if we are not a little jealous. How much easier it would have been to run our businesses with cell phones and computers.

When I went online to www.wordtracker.com and put in the key words electronic games. I was appalled at what came up: People wanted cheat sheets for Nintendo, Xbox, Playstation2 and Wii games. The top ones were “ps 2 game cheats” with a count of 14602 hits in 24 hours, ‘game cheats for ps2’with 17042 hits in 24 hours, “playstation2 game cheats” with 4858 and “games cheat” with 3898 in 24 hours.

What is this teaching our children? I want to win but I don’t want to cheat doing it. Maybe the children of today don’t think this is cheating but just smart tactics since every one can copy the cheat sheets off the internet and all have the same advantage. Maybe it is not cheating and I am just over reacting. As I read thru one of the sheets it seemed complicated to remember all of this in a fast pace game. But on the bright side “games play” came in with 21377 in a 24 hour period, “play game” with 8078, “play games” with 4102 and “games” with 7949 in a 24 hour period.

I guess time will tell the effects of all these electronic video games, but one thing for sure it certainly keeps the brain dusted off and active.

The Helicopter Game

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Have you tried the helicopter game lately?

If you are bored with the same old game you usually play over the more popular gaming sites, then why not try the helicopter game? If you are looking for something new, then the helicopter game must be for you.

So what’s with the helicopter game?

First things first… do not expect great graphics for you will not see one. You will not see rockets and missiles shooting off the Blackhawk or Comanche because you are neither playing with such helicopters. You will not carry heavy artilleries during the game. You will not have any mission to take or save people for terrorists in the most remote places on earth. And you will not even have to worry about the controls for the missiles, the take off, and the maneuvers for you will never going to need it.

What you will get is a simple 2-D graphic interface taking you back 2 decades ago… Getting the picture? If not try to imagine the legendary Pacman. Yah, yah… no monsters here but the graphic is relatively the same (if not exactly the same).

The helicopter game is a simple flash game with a simple mission: to get as many points as you could while avoiding walls and trying not to hit the upper and the lower borders or the tunnel-like terrain. You fly with a 2-centimeter helicopter (that comes wit a blue rotor, I wonder what is its model) that goes up and down with a click of the mouse. Anyway, the smoke on the tail of the helicopter is just an effect. You don’t need to be troubled about it.

How to play the Helicopter game?

If you know how to click the mouse button, then you surely know how to play the helicopter game. There are 2 ways to navigate: upward and downward. To achieve altitude, you need to hold the mouse button (just make sure you don’t hit the green wall). If you want to go down, but not totally down, just release the mouse button. You get back on flight if you resume your “mousecapade”. That simple and that easy; your intelligent dog can play it… nah, just kidding.

Helicopter game might be 20 years behind most of the technologically advanced games today. But what the heck? For a change, you can try it and play if for a couple of minutes just to kill time during breaks. You need not to spend you whole day playing it.

All Roads Lead From Rome All Computer Enhancements Arise From Computer Busses

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

We take a lot for granted in our modern Pentium 4 and advanced Atahlon computers. Plug and play, instant hardware configuration for the motherboard and accessory cards are pretty standard stuff.

However it was not always that way. Early motherboards were limited in terms of computing speed and had to be manually set up and configured by tech experts with physical “jumper settings:” among other skills.

These were not skills that knowledgeable teenager hackers generally had. If you wanted to compute so to say just as you had to have a good mechanic for your car you needed and excellent computer technician.

Things were humming along early on with the advent of 386 and 486 era computers. All in all there were a number of ongoing improvements. These included. 32 bit widths. Bus mastering. Less susceptible to noise in that they were “quieter’ in signal transmission. More convenience of setup of adds on boards via software.

Just as all roads so to say lead from Rome early computer advances all came from improvements in the “Computer Bus”.

The ISA bus came in only 8 bit and 16 bit formats. Whereas the later 386 and 486 chips , in both the DX and SX formats while they did have a 32 bit path were hobbled by the ISA bus. As a result they could never realize their true 32 bit speed potential. Later buses such as the MCA and EISA busses were able to overcome these inherent limitations.

Thee “data highways” referred to as “: busses” are the data transmission lines around the PCs. The bus serves as the path for information transmission around the PC. True this routing is controlled by the CPU. However as that point in vintage computing history this was not an issue. The PCs were stand alone single CPU units.

However as time went on and PCs got faster and more complicated with less expensive additional CPUs handling other tasks within the PCs events became dicer.
Onboard peripherals themselves began to have built in CPUs. CPUS in different manners began to be found in such peripherals as hard drives, sound and video cards.
The overall computer system may become much more efficient if these in essence peripheral CPUs can communicate directly with each other. without having to use the main CPU as an intermediary. Hence MCA and EISA were developed with these roles in mind. The concept became known as “bus mastering”.

Bus mastering involves the concept that the peripheral CPUS could request permission to take over the bus for a short period of time. The main CPU would grant permission for them to take over the bus, and it would temporarily drop “out of the loop”, enabling swift communications between for example the hard drive and floppy disk drive.

As computer busses developed and had the inherent abilities to transfer more and more data in a given time period noise became an issue. The ISA bus was fairly noise prone because it relied on triggered interrupts. Whenever the voltage level on the data line of the bus exceeded a given threshold value then “Edge Triggering” would result.

The alternative to this situation where “Edge Triggering” could result is “level triggering” where it is required that the transmitting hold and archive the higher voltage level in order for data to be recognized by the devices on the bus. Edge Triggering however can lead to “transients” – that is brief power surges that can confuse the devices on the bus into thinking that data is on the bus when it is not. Luckily level triggering lowers the noise level and both MCA and EISA employ it.

As a result of all of these inherent benefits MCA and EISA came to support the idea, which we know take for granted, of instant software configurations. There were no switches or jumpers on add in MCA or EISA boards. Although we take plug and play instant configuration of mother boards and peripherals such as sound, video or network cards for granted it was not always that way. We owe a lot to these early computer innovations of improving the computer bus.

Eve Online – A Complete Computer Game Review.

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Simply imagine you are piloting your space ship through space, on a search for fortune and fame. Perhaps you are in the process of working a trade route, transporting ore from a central mining area to a heavily industrialized planet in order to sell it at a huge fortune. Just as you are flying through the star system, your sensors pick up on something…it’s the pirates after you, and you sire off a few shots to keep them away.

One of them shouts out at you, “You must hand over your cargo or die.” Though you consider negotiating with them, but realize it’s of no use. However you fire off a missle salvo at the pirate closest to you, and he crumbles into dust. As you make a run back to planet, another two pirates open fire thus weakening your shields. Miraculously you duck into its protection just as your shields breaks up, barely escaping death and heading towards the biggest sale of your life.

Eve Online is one of the several MMORPGs that can be found on the internet. An MMORPG stands for a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. A MMORPG like Eve Online is unlike a number of computer games in that in a regular computer game, where you are the sole human player; as for all the other characters you relate with are simply computerized “bots.”

On the other hand in MMORPGs you’re interacting with other people who populate the world of the game. There are NPCs (Non Player Characters), who are just a part of the game, however for the most part you’re interacting with other people. For instance, the pirates in the Eve Online form the other people, at times on other parts of the world, linked through the Eve Online Server. If you receive messages, these are sent out by someone on the other end.

Although MMORPGs have been around for a long time (Everquest was definitely one of the most popular of all time), they are at present becoming increasingly more popular. Despite the fact the earliest MMORPGs were almost all fantasy based games that were full of wizards, warriors and dragons, many MMORPGs have split out. For instance, Eve Online is a futuristic, space-based combat and trading game, while The Sims Online is based on the popular Sims living and building game engine. A number of people are drawn to MMORPGs since they allow them to play an interesting computer game which enables them to interact with other people, keeping the player’s interest and avoiding the predictability that some games can lapse into. Eve Online and other similar games function much alike small worlds with their own leaders, heroes, crooks, followers, wars and politics thus making the fantasy worlds that much closer to reality.

The Art And Science Of Computer Game Design

Monday, July 7th, 2008

For anyone that enjoys playing computer games, a career and computer game design would be a dream come true. What could possibly the more enjoyable and rewording then designing your own computer game and actually being paid for it? Some designers are paid very, very well indeed. Every fan of computer games has no doubt at least occasionally fantasized having a career in computer game design, as a gamer myself, I have thought about how cool that would be myself.

If you are dreaming of a job in the computer game design industry, the good news is it’s a huge industry and there are loads of jobs available and it pays remarkably well if you should happen to come up with a hot seller. The bad news is that it is very difficult to learn the requisite programming skills that are required. Getting a degree in computer science is a solid beginning, but there’s nothing easy about achieving that either. Of the six friends I had in college that were computer science majors, only one of them has the fortitude to see it through and actually get a degree. It is a grueling major filled with advanced mathematics classes and tedious programming exercises. You really have to be smart, and you really have to be motivated.

If these things sound like something you could handle that a computer game design career may be something you could do. You will definitely need a deep abiding affection for computer games, but that’s pretty obvious isn’t it? My college friend that got his computer science degree is currently working for a well knowing game design company, and absolutely loves it. He will tell you though, that it is nowhere near the fun and games that he first imagined it would be.

Computer games today have absolutely huge amounts of complex code and can take years to complete. In the infancy of the game industry, computer game design teams often consisted of just a few people. Nowadays, a lot of the games have many different production teams all working simultaneously on a project, with each working in their own field of expertise.

For the really skilled programmers, there is no limit to what you can achieve. Experienced programmers with a proven track record under their belts can not only command a large salary but can have a lot of creative input over the direction of the game.

There are some other job in the computer game design industry and programming does not interest you. Generally, programmers are the most sought after, but good graphic artists and writers can be attractive employees to say game design producers. They may not be paid as well, but they most certainly still make an excellent living in the ever burgeoning industry of computer game design.

Computer Game Review – Innovations And Developments

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

The continuing advances in graphics technology, platform gaming infrastructure, processor technology and innovations in design will see more aggressive developments in computer games this 2006.

Gaming has traveled a long way today from the baby steps of the video games about thirty years ago. The square and jagged edged figures that used to dominate and entertain gamers on the screen is now more video-movie like if not life like that people today finds computer games more challenging and exciting.

The constant improvements made in computer technology exceeded expectations in the sales of computer games soft ware and has turned it into one big business in a very short span of time. The biggest impact on these games coming form the role playing games and the first person shooters.

The development of broadband had contributed very substantially to online gaming that in countries like South Korea, online gaming (Starcraft Gozu) has gathered a lot of followers dubbing the game fondly as its national sport. Online gaming has gained a popularity never seen before (or possible before), that international tournament are waged and battled online. Always trying to outwit and outplay the competition, world wide, online gaming has become very challenging and intense.

Where computer game designs used to be a simpler affair, today teams of artists, musicians, producers and gaming industries are working together to make the best and offer their best to the public that has patronized the games very well. The industry however has not, in marketing parlance, reached the peak. In my opinion, it is nowhere near it. The constant innovations that are shaping the computer games industry is so vast varied exciting and rewarding, enough material to motivate the designers and gamers to move on, that who knows what surprises are in store for the gaming public in the future.

What make computer games very popular are the regular releases of good computer game software. If you have not yet tried out the following, find a demo and find out for yourself.

1) Backyard Baseball 2005
2) Battlefield 2
3) Civilization IV
4) Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX3
5) FEAR
6) Fifa 06
7) Food Fight!
8) Grand Theft Auto
9) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
10) Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
11) Mario Kant DS
12) Need for Speed
13) Ninja Gaiden Black
14) Peter Jackson’s King Kong
15) Resident Evil 4
16) Sid Meier’s Pirates!
17) Sly 3: Honor Amongst Thieves
18) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
19) The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer
20) We Love Katamari

Console Gaming
The technology race in the computer games category will be heavily participated by Microsoft with their Xbox 360 – powered by a multi core processing unit, Sony’s Playstation 3 by a cell processor technology, and Revolution by Nintendo will allow player interaction through a wireless motion sensing controller.

The popularity of the computer and video games has been a big business that it has surpassed the revenues of the film industry excluding the films ancillary revenues. However additional business for the computer games also comes in the form of trading cards, T-shirt prints of popular characters in video games and game titles and television shows that features reviews and gaming competitions. Judging from continuing developments and innovations in the game designs and computer technology, the year 2006 will even be more exciting.

Features Of The Sims Computer Game

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Sims City and other Sims games in the series are among the most popular computer games on all time. They are enjoyed by millions around the globe and for good reason. The games are fun and have the unique twist that the fate of the little Sims characters is in your hands alone.

The goal of the Sims is to direct the lives of the city dwellers in the game. Their actions and destiny is tied to the decisions you make in their daily lives.

The game is set in a suburb of the city, but this is not your average suburb. The inhabitants are small polygonal characters whose actions you control. They behave in human like ways, they talk to each other and make gestures and hunker down for TV. They even fight and hurl insults. They tell jokes and even take baths.

The audio for the game is quite good, the background music is quite excellent and the sound effects such as door slamming and toilet flushing are close to authentic. Their speech is mostly gibberish but they are easy to understand due to facial expressions and tonality.

The graphics are of the quality Sims fans have come to expect, quite detailed and colorful.

You can start the game with a pre generated family or a single character. Each character has his own personality traits and job skills. These come together to determine how well the Sim will do at his job and be able to provide for his family. The Sim has to look through the paper to find a job and once he does, a car appears at the same time each day to wisk him off to work. It is vital your Sim finds a job because he can’t buy things if he isn’t employed, including food.

You must also watch over your Sim’s needs. Each has a lifebar for such indicators as hunger, comfort, energy, fun, and bladder. The bars continually drain and then fill back up when you meet a need. If you neglect your Sim, he will suffer and possible die.

You also have to help your Sim buy appliances so he can cook, and furnish his house as it must always grow or his room meter will drain out.

The Sims is a lot of fun and is a unique sort of game which will get you hooked on it. It’s good for some laughs and unexpected things happen frequently like your Sim catching the house on fire while cooking. It takes a lot of work to monitor your Sim to keep him safe and happy.

Learning About Computer Game Design

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Computer games have become extremely popular in the past few years. With new games being launched almost every year world over, the demand seems never ending. Those adept at computer programming, computer aided art and computer hardware are the masterminds to produces these extremely sought after games.

Usually, an interest sparks if you are a passionate about playing games. One may be an expert player, but subsequently gets bored of the games available and there by begins thinking of concepts for new games or means of improvising the already existing games. Taking a computer game design class and ultimately enrolling in a full fledged course for the same are the next steps. At the end of it a new computer game designer is created.

Computer games have become such a technology rage in themselves that schools have begun offering classes in computer game design. The popularity of these classes leads to their getting filled up soon and they can be a bit expensive. I found some great computer information at http://www.mycomputingnews.com. Hundreds of schools, most of them very much techno oriented have come up in order to fulfill the desires of those who wish to learn computer game design. Those who opt for a complete course of computer game design will be exposed initially to concepts like game balance, level design, narrative and storytelling, basic game architecture, motion planning and control.

As a career, it’s not at all simple. Hundreds of different aspects that comprise the computer game design have to be considered. Those aspiring to learn all will learn about the history of computer games, software architecture, animated sprites, sound and music, realism ,challenges, level design, plot pacing, interface techniques, 3D loading , camera control, rule based approaches among many other concepts.

Most fail to understand that designing a computer game is just like writing a technology filled book. A good game needs a good storyline that comprises a plot, characters, narrative, a thrilling begin, middle and end. Also emotion, repercussions and interaction also are a vital part. The domain of computer game design has many challenges for anyone who aspires and decides to master the basics.

Computer game design, has become a profession for many today. The average money one can spin is about $74,900 annually. That’s not bad at all to work on especially when you enjoy it thoroughly. Some computer game designers are able to clinch contracts with big players and make over $100,000 per year. For those who indulge in computer game design as a freelancer can enhance their earnings from a regular job by about $10,000 to $30,000 a year. Hence, in conclusion, computer game design is surely fun filled, challenging and lucrative from every possible perspective.

The Rise Of Computer Game Addiction

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

In this day and age, with hardcore chemicals being the scourge of civilized life, heroin, cocaine, vicodin, all the classes of drugs that are man-made and not naturally produced or even those that are natural, it seems silly to talk of addiction to a computer game. But it is neither silly nor trivial. Take heed!

The sheer popularity of these games, played on home computers, Xbox’s, Playstations, Gamecubes and other consoles, shows that this addiction does not affect everyone equally. Some people can play a game for an hour, then go back to work, or watch TV and not give a second thought to the game. Others play it 8 hours a day or more, forgoing meals, family, work, and daily chores.

The corporations that produce these games do not help with the problem, in fact they stoke the fires into roaring blazes. Clearly, they understand that there are millions of people who will forgo simple things in life to pay $10 a month to play on a game for objects and things that are intangible. So they feed the addiction, releasing new objects obtainable only in the online world, or releasing new add-on upgrades and expansion sets for another $50. The bottom line is money of course, they are corporations who are responsible to their shareholders, and no-one wants to blame them for the ruinous addiction they are causing. With ever larger online worlds entering the gaming fray (World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 …), it seems that this is a problem that will only increase.

Psychologists have labelled this as Computer Addiction or Internet Addictive Disorder, a problem very similar to Pathological Gambling or Compulsive Shopping, and sadly it does not just affect one person, but seeps into family life affecting those around the addicted. This is a real disorder, not imagined, and those afflicted need to seek professional help and more significantly, need the love, comfort and support of friends and family. Perhaps a little tough love is in order too, regulate the computer time, turn off your child’s playstation after they have played for an hour, get them involved in real world activities that have nothing to do with a computer.

This is not an American phenomena, or European, this is world-wide, and only getting worse. The Chinese have started camps for adolescents addicted to computers, in a land where nearly 15% of adolescents suffer from Internet Addiction Disorder according to the China Internet Information Center.

Richard Dows can be found blogging on his site (http://www.thex.com/rd/), freelancing web design or working on new online business models. This author has experienced a mild form of this disorder, playing Diablo and Diablo 2 for hours on end and falling prey to the eBay auction bug for Diablo 2 items. Thankfully I had an experience that changed me, a friend of mine got affected by the Everquest bug, playing all hours of the day, not paying bills, skipping work; it eventually led to her divorce, her being fired, and losing everything. So be warned – addiction need not be drug-based and it can ruin your life.

How To Cheat In A Computer Game

Friday, June 6th, 2008

The definition of a cheat is pretty easy to figure out. If you have an affair with someone other than your lover, you can be called a cheat. If you copy answers from another person during an exam, you can also be called a cheat. In sports, if you try to win or get an advantage by disregarding the rules you are cheating but in computer games this definition become hard to follow. Taking advantage or lying to your fellow game players does not automatically mean you are cheating.

Cheating in a computer game is defined by the game and the people who are playing it.A lot of computer games come with a “cheat code”. This is usually to help a person get started and makes the game a little easier. They are usually designed for a single player. If you use these cheat codes you are cheating technically but it doesn’t mean you have an advantage.

The most common occurrence of cheating is when there are multiplayer and mass multiplayer games through the internet. In this instance, the players are not known to each other so they don’t have the restrictive influence of being seen by their opponents.

There are two main areas of cheating in computer games. You can change your settings through the use of exploits, bugs and external software or cheesing.

If you alter your computer settings, the layout of the computer’s hardware or the computer game to fit your gaming style you are cheating in a sense and this can be alright. But if you went even further and changed the brightness or the color of the screen in order to see better in shadow areas it becomes questionable.

Exploits are termed as errors in the game itself that give an advantage to one person or another. If someone deliberately uses those it a game, it could be considered cheating but it also could add to the excitement of the game.

There are software programs you can purchase that modify a program that runs computer game. This is a more serious form of cheating. Other software programs study the status of the game through the computer’s RAM

Another form of cheating is called cheesing. This is when the players do things that cannot happen in real life or are not allowed in real life.

The most common of game cheats these days find ways to change the game’s software. Even if the game developers try to encrypt or protect the files, there are software programs that will be able to change the game’s code without changing the main program. Cheats of this kind may be detected using programs that are installed on a server.

Preventing computer game cheaters is not easy. There are a lot of grey areas to agree on and consider before you term someone a cheat.
